DIGITAL ASSETS: AN INSIGHT

Abhi Shiri T, Christ (Deemed To Be University), Bangalore

ABSTRACT

This paper analyses how and why digital assets have emerged as a new and growing asset class, covering how these are affecting the global economy. Admits users to a more detailed exploration of various forms of digital property counting cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and tPDAs, permits emphasizing their distinctions concerning ownership, transfer, and value storage. Because of the decentralized nature of transactions in their usage, digital assets are disrupting the traditional sources of financial markets and diminishing the roles of conventional mediators. 1 This goes further into the key challenges afflicting the digital assets among them being the fact that there are no clear standard rules in every country to govern these which makes uncertainty reign in its operation and complicated efforts by governments in regulating it.

They outline focal risks, such as fraud, money laundering, and manipulation of the market, which are considered to be compromising for the digital asset industry. The paper also assesses the technological structure of digital assets with particular concentration on the blockchain concept. This technology not only provides transparency and security in every transaction, but also has the possibility of changing the world in the field of finance, supply, and chain industry and system as well as the field of copyrights. In the end, analyze the characteristics of the digital asset markets and digital assets management, noting its high volatility and growing activity of institutional investors, as well as general consequences for financial stability.

The note that the application of digital assets faces certain challenges and a number of stellar points but the use of digital assets’ full-capacity can fully expand only through the development of the relevant legislation and improved technologies. Digital Asset Management (DAM) is the process of arranging, preserving, and shipping digital content such as images, videos, and documents within a centralized system. In these times of digitalization, DAM gives companies the best management approach by increasing discoverability through metadata and tagging. 1 Toygar, A. , Rohm, C. T. , & Zhu, J. The main functionalities are basic implementation of petition management for visiting safe zones, document providing for the identification of asset lifecycles, and other systems, which are integration for the asset's distribution. DAM leads to the improvement of operational efficiency, provides a unified brand identity, as well as launches of other assets. DAM in general is the primary necessity for all the companies to effectively take care of the digital assets that allow more collaboration and give space for the development of a digital world.

INTRODUCTION

A digital asset can be described more specifically: It is anything new that is created digitally, easily recognizable, and for which the owner can assert proprietary rights. Several definitions describe digital assets in general as important assets that are important to people in their daily lives as technology advances for use both personally and in businesses. Examples of digital assets include data, images, videos, documents, and even virtual currency, all of which have ownership features and/or the ability to create value. Digital assets in this sense therefore vary in value depending on the use and the target market. For example, an ''observed'' family photograph that a user has on his or her mobile phone might have no value to anyone else, different from a company brand that is a virtual property of huge financial or strategic worth.

In the past, digital assets referred to information that most organizations employed in their day-to-day operations. However, the meaning changed with the emergence of decentralized digital assets and blockchain technology in 2009 when more and more digital goods started to get tokenized and sold on ad hoc online markets. New forms of ‘data assets' go way beyond files to tangible items capable of being purchased, traded, and moved between distributed ledgers, which in turn alters how one understands property and worth. It has opened the door to newer forms of assets such as non-fungible tokens; security tokens; and tokenized assets making them critical to businesses, governments, and individuals.

As more and more of our interactions with the world shift online, it is vitally important to properly understand what digital assets are and how they function, especially concerning how they change our experience of property, wealth, and security. In the present paper, the author aims to present various forms of digital assets, explain their importance, the issues associated with them, and how they are changing the very meaning of ownership and value in modern business environments.

A Digital Library is a system for configurable storage and search of various connected to assets, and their metadata. Metadata and Tagging associate proper names or keywords, and descriptions to rich media objects which makes it possible to search for them. Auto-tagging can take this a step forward. Permissions Management Protects the organizational assets so as to only allow individuals that are supposed to access the assets to retrieve and modify them. This is especially relevant when working together while protecting the company’s key assets. Workflows and Approvals It helps in developing, revisiting and sharing of digital content by providing efficient and effective working procedures. Integration Marketers also want DAM to connect with other systems like content management, e-commerce, and marketing platforms to make sure the assets are where they’re needed.

Document Control Captures assets in use and follows their evolution to the status of retirement or deletion. Transfers items as documents, multimedia files, or datasets to people, outfits, or work groups through portals, collaborative platforms, or linked systems. DAM solutions can be primarily assessed and valued based on the contribution they make to a business’s operations by providing the central repository for digital assets, improving their reuse, increasing operational effectiveness, and effectively delivering digital assets into the right distribution channels. With digital assets becoming more and more critical of business operations, DAM offers the platform and tools to control and increase the returns of such assets.

In this paper, we will therefore discuss; the various digital assets, the need for a DAM, and the impact both are having on the modern concepts of ownership, value, and management in the digital economy. In the last few years, the growth of digital assets has exploded due to the impact of technology and changing consumer and investor demands. New types of cryptoassets have appeared such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and in November 2021 the total global digital asset market was estimated to be around US$3 trillion. That same year, 14% of U. S. adults (21. 2 million people) owned digital assets, with another 13% planning to invest. Also corporations are realizing the increasing importance of digital assets (Moore 2021). 2 This transition indicates that crypto assets are not merely instruments of criminality anymore, as US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen once feared.

Now with companies like Wikipedia, Microsoft, and at&t accepting bitcoin and tesla accepting Dogecoin, crypto-assets are starting

Accounting literature has noted the inconsistent use of accounting standards for cryptocurrency (Sixt and Himmer 2019) and the disagreement among stakeholders as to what the best accounting methods should be (Chou et al. 2022). This paper evaluates current practices and explores potential accounting treatments for crypto-assets, offering policy recommendations. Unlike Chou et al. (2022) This research examines current guidelines for determining the best possible therapy. Blockchain, though complex, is a technology, not an asset. The fact that digital assets are so new and that no one can really predict their value makes it even harder to account for them.

The difficulty of accounting arises not from the nature of the asset, but its use. Our study indicates either the development of a new standard for digital assets, or the modification of current financial standards to accommodate these assets, specifically with derivatives.

DISCUSSION

Digital assets are a fact of life around the world, yet many users find it difficult to get at or manage these assets, especially when someone they care about has died. Some companies, such as Assetlock and Legacy Locker, can manage digital accounts after death, but these are usually expensive and cumbersome. The only way this will ever work is if new laws are made that control digital property so that people can protect there digital property or transfer it or sell it with out paying a bunch of money to do it. 3 At present, users of digital services like email or social media accounts are "locked in" to Terms of Service (TOS) agreements, which usually provide no room for negotiation or options as to what happens to the accounts when the user dies. The TOS, which most users are not given a choice but to accept, often does not even respect the rights of the user.

The problem is when the owner of an account dies, the digital service provider usually just cancels the account, which is a stupid and immoral practice when those accounts have a monetary value or social value. In order to combat this problem, a new law should be made that specifically states what is a "digital asset" and the rights of the owners of a digital account. The law should allow for digital 3 A. MGMT. 116 (2013). assets to be transferred or inherited to beneficiaries without any additional costs. A quick fix could involve digital service providers asking new users whether they want their digital assets to be inherited, allowing for the inclusion of instructions, passwords, and beneficiary details in the account setup process.

Law Commission publishes revised Bill on digital assets as personal property: In its most recent proposal dated 30th July 2024, the Law Commission introduced a Bill which understands digital assets as personal property. The Bill further provides that digital assets are property to the extent that they do not pass within the confines of the law’s existing classifications, such as choses in action and chose in possession. The aim of this change is to develop the presence of the UK in the crypto ecosystem by taking away certain barriers towards the contentions around the legal framework of digital assets. A note to the Bill explains its accompanying report that fulfils the author’s objective of seeking input on whether there is need to create more legislation.

Some of the recent case law in different jurisdictions seems to begin addressing the emerging property law of these digital assets with respect theft. Some benefits of such classification are clear to the Law Commission though they wanted to validate this through consultation. Norton Rose Fulbright LLP supported the view requesting creation of the new law toward establishment of a new type of personal property in consultation. They contended that this would help the court system in setting out laws that would recognize the diversity of digital assets, thereby making the UK an attractive home for digital asset services. The Law Commission modified the draft Bill so that the explanatory note also includes a view that the draft Bill should not be understood to mean that the scope of property rights over pure information would be expanded.

Referring An Analysis of Cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, and the Future: In "An Analysis of Cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, and the Future," Peter D. DeVries attempts to reveal the growing importance of currencies. He also touches upon its foundational block chain technology which allows secure and decentralized operations. This paper reviews the reasons for the growing acceptance of Bitcoin as a form of currency even in transactions, as it clearly identifies the advantages over the conventional banking models. 4 For instance, De Vries analyses the market for the new currencies and their prospects and risks looking forward - underlining the speculative nature of these instruments and their governance issues.

However, he counters the concerns and says that Bitcoin and other cryptoc oin payments systems would change how companies transact business for this convenience and speed entails more regulation to deal with possible abuse while adoption would increase. The present analysis ends with the prediction of where the world of digital currencies is heading to stating that each of Bitcoin, alternative underlying technologies and conventional currency are unlikely to be interchangeable. This view would quite fit into your research focus on the rise of Bitcoin, its impact and its development in the scope of cryptocurrency.

I understand you have more specific interests and so tell me whether you need more information or certain parts of the paper for a deeper insight into your topic The Need for Digital Asset Management (DAM) In today's digital economy, businesses create more and more content in digital format so there is an essential need to manage those assets. A Digital Asset Management (DAM) solution offers enterprises with a centralized source for storing, organizing and sharing digital media files. Here's why DAM is crucial: Metadata, tagging and indexing: DAM systems structure digital assets using metadata, tagging and/or indexes. This helps with discovery by not reinventing the wheel, allowing your business to find and manage assets as quickly as possible to reduce wasted costs.

5 Security and Access Control: DAM systems come with secure access control, serving businesses to determine who can reach the assets, customize them or distribute them. This means keeping your sensitive information safe while enabling the collaboration of your team. 4 P. D. Version Control and Compliance: DAM monitors the digital asset lifecycle and offers version control to prevent workflow interruptions from out-of-date or erroneous materials. The industries that are subject to stringent rules would benefit most from it as it will enable them to ensure accountability and compliance. Maintaining Brand Consistency: DAM ensures that authorized assets (logos and marketing materials) are used in all campaigns, ensuring a consistent brand identity across platforms. Additionally, as DAM automatically records everything accessible, it may reduce the expensive expenditures associated with continuously looking for files and developing duplicate assets for those that are lost or out-of-date as you centralize asset management and processes to better organise your material.

with upgrading charitable savings in the upcoming years and, thus, enhancing operational effectiveness. The research provides the following summary of the key traits of cryptosystems: Blockchain Technology: According to the authors, the blockchain serves as the foundation for cryptocurrency systems and provides decentralised, unambiguous, and permanent records. Blockchain provides crypto-transactions with legitimacy and security without requiring centralised authority. 6 Cryptographic Methods: methods of cryptography used to safe transactions. The latter consists of digital signatures and hash algorithms that guarantee data authenticity and integrity on the blockchain. Mining and Consensus Mechanisms: Among other topics covered by the writers is how Bitcoins employ proof-of-work (PoW) as a consensus technique to validate transactions and prevent double-spending.

It also has the drawback of being very energy-intensive; the study discusses alternative techniques that could be more effective in this regard, such proof-of-stake and proof-of-stake networks. Security Concerns: Despite the paper's acknowledgement that decentralisation makes cryptocurrencies secure, several vulnerabilities are still present. Wallet security, 51% attacks, and double-spending are a few of the related problems. Concerns about privacy: protecting user 6 U. Mukhopadhyay, A. Skjellum, O. Hambolu, J. Oakley, L. Yu & R. Future Directions: These allude to the fact that researchers are talking more about scalability, energy efficiency, and greater usage of cryptocurrencies across more industries. Better legal frameworks, simpler user interfaces, and strong security measures are what the authors claim will be necessary for increased adoption in daily life. Conclusion This study paper concentrates on phenomena such as the introduction and development of the Bitcoin cryptocurrency as a particular alteration of currencies in the modern world. Indeed, Bitcoin has changed the foundations of the business world providing people with the ability for direct transfers of assets without intermediaries. This revolutionized the concept of ownership over digital assets and the possibilities of value transfer, security, and self-financing.

The analysis noted in the paper the growing trend to use bitcoin as a means of exchange and investment, even though the currency is volatile and regulatory issues of concerns persist. With more and more people, companies and even states making use of virtual currency, basics of bitcoin are becoming more widely integrated in the financial system As it Justice also analyzes the legal ramifications and suggestions for best practices surrounding Bitcoin, jurisdiction and consumer safety are hot topics as well as the creation of new products. The relationship between Bitcoin and blockchain, which is the technology of more public currency and other related issues was also investigated. Enhancing efficiency and transparency, ensuring data protection and eliminating unnecessary intermediaries, wherein topical one also appears to offer broad perspectives on business and several other avenues.

As a result, as digital material has grown quickly in the contemporary economy, so too has the requirement for Digital Asset Management (DAM) solutions. DAM systems have provided comprehensive solutions to address the growing amount and complexity of digital assets, from efficient organization and security to improved operational efficiency and compliance. Adoption of DAM offers the potential for optimization of usage, which refers to content that is made available, secure, and accessible when needed to support business objectives. It goes beyond simply protecting an organization's assets. DAM is a "must-have" to win and maintain the competitive game as well as to safeguard growth over time due to the altered digital ecosystem.
