Role of E-Governance in Facilitating Good Governance: E-governance plays a pivotal role in promoting good governance by fostering transparency, accountability, efficiency, and citizen participation. Through online portals and digital platforms, governments can provide accessible and timely information, enabling citizens to hold authorities accountable and participate in decision-making processes.

Moreover, egovernance streamlines administrative procedures, reduces bureaucratic inefficiencies, and minimizes opportunities for corruption, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of governance. By leveraging digital technologies, e-governance enhances the responsiveness of governments to citizen needs, promotes inclusive development, and strengthens democratic principles, ultimately contributing to the advancement of good governance. Furthermore, e-governance facilitates transparency by making government processes and decisions more accessible to the public. Through online portals and digital platforms, citizens can access information about government policies, programs, and expenditures, empowering them to make informed decisions and hold public officials accountable for their actions.

Accountability is another critical aspect of good governance that e-governance helps to promote. By digitizing administrative processes and recording transactions electronically, egovernance creates a transparent audit trail that enables authorities to track and monitor government activities more effectively. This transparency reduces the likelihood of corruption and misuse of public resources, fostering a culture of accountability within government institutions. Efficiency is also enhanced through e-governance initiatives, as digital platforms streamline administrative procedures and reduce bureaucratic red tape. Processes that previously required lengthy paperwork and manual intervention can now be completed online, saving time and resources for both government agencies and citizens.

This efficiency not only improves the delivery of public services but also enhances the overall effectiveness of governance by enabling faster decision-making and responsiveness to citizen needs. Citizen participation is another crucial component of good governance that e-governance facilitates. Digital platforms provide avenues for citizens to engage with government officials, participate in public consultations, and provide feedback on policies and programs. This participatory approach to governance ensures that the voices of citizens are heard and considered in the decision-making process, leading to more inclusive and responsive governance outcomes. 8 In summary, e-governance plays a multifaceted role in facilitating good governance by promoting transparency, accountability, efficiency, and citizen participation.

By leveraging digital technologies, e-governance enhances the effectiveness of government institutions, improves service delivery, and strengthens democratic principles. However, to fully realize the potential of e-governance in promoting good governance, it is essential to address challenges such as the digital divide, data privacy, and cybersecurity, and to ensure that e-governance initiatives are implemented and enforced effectively. Need for Stricter Enforcement Measures: While e-governance initiatives hold immense potential to enhance governance processes and promote good governance, their effectiveness hinges on robust enforcement measures. Stricter enforcement is necessary to ensure compliance with legal standards, safeguard citizen rights, and maintain the integrity of e-governance platforms.

Firstly, stricter enforcement measures are essential to address legal ambiguities and gaps in the regulatory framework governing e-governance. Ambiguities in existing laws, particularly concerning data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity, pose significant challenges in safeguarding citizen rights in the digital realm. By enforcing clear and comprehensive regulations, authorities can provide guidance to stakeholders and mitigate legal risks associated with e-governance implementation. Secondly, robust enforcement mechanisms are crucial to uphold accountability and transparency in e-governance practices. Without adequate enforcement, there is a risk of noncompliance and misuse of e-governance platforms, undermining their credibility and effectiveness. Stricter enforcement measures, including monitoring mechanisms and penalties 8 Sharma, S. K. , & Gupta, J. N. D. (2018).
